Insurance - what the policy covers
Reading through and comparing all the benefits that each company offers can be difficult, so to make things a little easier, why not make use of this useful benefits checklist.
The list is compiled from the typical benefits provided by insurers as published on their web pages. However, not all companies provide all these benefits so be sure to check the policies in detail.
Before deciding on an insurance company, don't forget to check out our list of useful questions to ask the insurer.
Benefits checklist:
- protection for buildings against a range of natural disasters, such as fire, flood and theft
- protection for contents against a range of natural disasters, such as fire, flood and theft
- accidental damage to buildings and contents
- this is often an optional extra so it is worth checking whether this is included, especially to cover damage done by guests
- malicious damage to buildings and contents
- this is also often an optional extra so it is worth checking whether this is included, especially to cover damage done by guests
- outbuildings insurance, e.g. swimming pools
- theft of possessions even when the property is unoccupied
- new-for-old replacement of contents
- damage cover for pipes, cables, sewers and drains, i.e. all domestic supplies
- lock and key replacement
- loss of income, due to the property becoming unusable
- legal expenses
- public liability insurance – liability insurance should guests or owners have an accident
- employers liability insurance – should staff, (e.g. cleaners) have an accident
- cost of travel and accommodation for you if you have to travel to the property
- no claims bonus.
