Marketing - advertising locally
Many people take a weekend holiday and so will only want to travel a limited distance. This is especially true in winter, so it’s worth thinking about how to get your cottage known to these people, who are likely to be local.
Advertising locally is not likely to generate enough bookings on its own but is still a useful marketing strategy, and as some methods are free or inexpensive, they represent excellent value for money.
Here’s some of the ways to advertise locally.
Flyer/card in post office or shop or pub
- Is always a good idea!
- People passing through your area may be attracted to the idea of staying there, and will look out for local adverts in the local shop, pub and post office
- Local people may be looking for accommodation for friends and family
- Don’t underestimate the value of this kind of advertising
- Is often free, or very cheap so what is there to loose?
Sign in window, wall, gate of your property
- Again, people passing through your area may be attracted to the idea of staying there, and a sign on your property will encourage them to investigate your property while their interest is high
- Local people may be looking for accommodation for friends and family
Local newspapers
- Because many visitors, especially in the winter, are local, don’t underestimate the value of this kind of advertising
- Can be expensive to use regularly, but can be useful when bookings need boosting
